Islamic schools are well placed all over South Africa as well as Madressahs. Some institutions offer short courses on Islamic teaching, while Islamic Law and Islamic finance studies are also available. Qu’ran Study groups are common and Arabic studies are available through private tutoring, or universities such as Wits University and University of the Western Cape.
South Africa has also been bestowed with numerous Darul Ulooms (institutes for higher Islamic learning). These institutes attract students from around the world. One salient feature of the Darul Ulooms is that it teaches Islam in its pristine purity.
The Association of Muslim Schools (AMS) provides a range of quality services which will enable Muslim schools to deliver an Islamicly based education of the highest standard and quality. AMS consists of 71 schools nationally and encompasses both primary and high schools as well as independent and state-aided schools.
The AMS functions as three regions –Gauteng & Northern Regions (incorporating North-West, Mpumalanga and Free State) KwaZulu Natal and Western Cape.
The schools services the poor to middle income groups. Fees range from R2000 per annum. All schools have bursary programmes to cater for the needy.
